Does anyone have direct experience with locally successful methods of non-lethal deterrence of Flickers drumming on gutters? I'm trying to persuade someone in my neighborhood from going ballistic on one of my favorite species.

I've found various websites with various suggestions. What I'm after is proof of successful, cheap, non-lethal solutions. Mylar strips seem the most promising.
