Clarice Clark wrote, "I got good looks at the yellow shafted flicker at my suet feeder here in Puyallup. He has bright yellow shafts, and undertail, alright, but his moustache is red and there is a small red patch of red on his nape." Yeah, hybrid. Got some genes from here and some from there. Good example of why the two extremes aren't good species.
