Redwings are erratic migrants and can travel long distances. Birds banded in
the UK in winter presumably coming from Scandanavia have been recovered as
far afield as Syria in following winters.

If the birds are breeding as far east as the Kolyma river it does not seem
unlikely that one should show up in Washington - after all there are snow
geese wintering on the Skagit that come from the same area.
