Hi Tweeters,

Two weeks of birds. Missed work last Fri and didn't
get around to posting. The immature Cooper's Hawk is
back around. Last Thursday the Black-capped
Chickadees alerted, then I saw it fly by accompanied
by only 2 crows this time. This Monday it scared a
small bird into a very tall messy clump of ornamental
type grass. It landed on a wall above the clump and
was intensely scrutinizing the clump of grass to find
the bird. Then the hawk jumped down onto the ground.
It took several different jumps into the clump. I
never did see the end of the story, I had to go. The
hunted bird never flushed as best I could tell,
although some chickadee's came close in to watch the
action which I thought could have been a risky
behavior for them.

Today a Red-breasted Sapsucker was drilling holes into
an evergreen tree. I saw at least 20 wells where it
was working. If it sticks around I will have to take
my coworkers on a field trip to see this neat bird,
after all they let me go yesterday to see the
Redwing:-)

Most of the ducks are hanging out behind the big
marina on the other side of the Montlake cut so I
can't see them. I did see a Greater Scaup male in
close last week.
