Birders,

I went out for a short time in the afternoon today in search of sparrows in
the Kelowna area. My first stop was at Munson's Pond, where after about 25
minutes I located the SWAMP SPARROW seen first by Ryan Tomlinson the other
day. From the end of Munson's Road you will follow the dyke W. past the
grove of willows. Then, turn right and follow another dyke, watching for the
Swamp Sparrow. Also along here were a few White-crowned Sparrows, Song
Sparrows and lots of House Sparrows and House Finches.

The next stop was an extensive weedy field behind the new Capital News
Sports Centre along Gordon Road in Kelowna. You can park in the parking area
for the centre and then walk behind to the fields just E. of the complex.
Along the main paved road I located a flock of about 20 WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROWS with at least one immature HARRIS'S SPARROW in there. There were
many birds I couldn't check before dark so people should return to this
place if they can. Also there were about 10 Ring-necked Pheasants, hundreds
of California Quail and an adult NORTHERN SHRIKE.
