I was in Smith and Hawkens today and saw that they have a new type (to me) of bird feeder with a bottom platform with a spring loaded baffle. Supposedly, when a squirrel or large bird lands on the perch, the platform folds up and there is no access to the seed. The springs are adjustable.
Has anyone had any success deterring squirrels with such a contraption, or do they figure out a way around it - or break the springs? It cost around $60.
