This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Wednesday,
December 29th sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare Bird Alert out in Abbotsford for a BURROWING OWL.

Sightings for Wednesday, December 29

The BURROWING OWL was reported from Abbotsford.

Observed at the Reifel Refuge was the GOLDEN EAGLE.

Two AMERICAN KESTRELS were reported today. One near #10 & 96th and the
other near #17 & 34B.

The MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE continues to frequent a feeder on the NE corner of
160th & 82nd Ave. in Surrey.

Tuesday, December 28

The ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was again observed through the day at 3690
Victoria Dr. in NE Coquitlam.

The MCKAY'S BUNTING was reported from the tip of the Iona Jetty.

Two NORTHERN PYGMY-OWLS were seen at Maplewood CA.

At Brunswick Point were the CATTLE EGRET, a SWAMP SPARROW, an AMERICAN TREE
SPARROW, 2 SNOWY OWLS, an AMERICAN BITTERN and a SHORT-EARED OWL.

The Olympia Washington REDWING was again observed AT 8:30 AM and later in
the day around 3:30 in the 4th Ave, Decatur Street area.

Monday, December 27

The preliminary total for the Ladner CBC was 141. Highlights were a
possible BLACK PHOEBE heard at the entrance to Reifel Refuge. The bird was
calling non-stop for 2-3 minutes at edge of slough, a BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON & a GOLDEN EAGLE also at Reifel, a CINNAMON TEAL at Alaksen.
The WILLET on the Tsawwassen Jetty and 2 ROCK SANDPIPERS from the Roberts
Bank Jetty. A PINE GROSBEAK in a hawthorne bush on the Boundary Bay Airport
N of the dyke. Seven SNOWY OWLS, 4 on Westham Island, 2 at Brunswick Point
and 1 at 72nd.

The ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was observed at 3690 Victoria Dr. in NE
Coquitlam.

The MCKAY'S BUNTING was at the tip of the Iona Jetty.

Sunday, December 26

The Olympia Washington REDWING was observed in the AM in the 4th Ave,
Decatur Street, and Cushing St. area.

The MCKAY'S BUNTING was seen at the tip of the Iona Jetty along with a
GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH.

The male RED-BREASTED GROSBEAK was observed in the backyard of 3690 Victoria
Dr. in Coquitlam. Please note there are 2 Victoria Drives, 1 in Port
Coquitlam & 1 in Coquitlam and they both intersect. If arriving from Coast
Meridian driving east along Victoria Dr. look for the signs directing you to
Minnekhada Park. This will put you on to the correct Victoria Dr. Park on
the street and proceed down the drive way. The bird is coming to the
feeders hanging at the back of the house and to a small birdbath.
