A very reliable place to see black scoter is Double Bluff beach on
Whidbey Island. I hate to use the term "100% chance" because someone may
come out and miss them. Let's put it this way; I've never failed to see
or hear (kind of a mournful call) them on my frequent winter beach walks
in the fourteen years I've lived here. Get on the Mukilteo Ferry (admire
the big flock of Barrow's goldeneyes at the ferry terminal) head up
island on Highway 525 about nine miles, turn left on Double Bluff road
and follow it to the public parking lot at the end. Walk west on the
beach ~1/4 mile and scan the scoter flock. Tides permitting, you can
walk a couple of miles to southernmost of the double bluffs. This is a
great beach walk. Also, there are usually harlequin ducks, loons,
grebes, etc. out in Useless Bay.

I've been looking for a Black Scoter for the past couple of years but
only recently with a scope. Someone suggested I try Alki Pt,
specifically at MeeKWaMooks. Can anyone tell me what and where that is?



After hearing about so many sightings during the CBC I'm determined to
find one!
