This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Friday,
December 31st sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

On behalf of all the Bird Alert Operators I would like to thank all those
birders who took the time to phone in their sightings during 2004. I would
also like to wish one and all a very "birdy" 2005.

The Rare Bird Alert continues for the REDWING in Olympia Washington.

Featured birds are CATTLE EGRET, SNOWY OWL & TURKEY VULTURE.

Sightings for Friday, December 31

A TURKEY VULTURE was seen in over flight of 148th & 108th in Surrey.

Two AMERICAN KESTRELS were seen again along 168th south of Hwy #10.

Two NORTHERN PYGMY-OWLS were reported from Maplewood CA.

A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was observed at Blackie Spit.

At Brunswick Point the CATTLE EGRET was again cooperative for birders near
the car park area. Also reported from Brunswick Point were 2 SNOWY OWLS.

In Olympia Washington the REDWING was seen after a 2-day absence. The bird
was seen between 8:40am-10:45am. The bird was first located along Decatur
Street just south of 4th Ave. It was later relocated along 5th Ave.

Thursday, December 30

Reported from Brunswick Point were the CATTLE EGRET, a SWAMP SPARROW, & 4
SNOWY OWLS. Observed along the Roberts Bank Jetty were a RUDDY TURNSTONE &
a ROCK SANDPIPER.

At the foot of 72nd were 2 SNOWY OWLS and an AMERICAN KESTREL was sighted
near 64th & 30th Ave.

Wednesday, December 29

A BURROWING OWL was reported from Abbotsford.

Observed at the Reifel Refuge was the GOLDEN EAGLE.

Two AMERICAN KESTRELS were reported, 1 near #10 & 96th and the other near
#17 & 34B.

The MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE continues at a feeder on the NE corner of 160th &
82nd Ave. in Surrey.

Two SURFBIRDS were seen along the Iona Jetty.

Tuesday, December 28

The ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was again observed through the day at 3690
Victoria Dr. in NE Coquitlam.

The MCKAY'S BUNTING was reported from the tip of the Iona Jetty.

Two NORTHERN PYGMY-OWLS were seen at Maplewood CA.

At Brunswick Point were the CATTLE EGRET, a SWAMP SPARROW, an AMERICAN TREE
SPARROW, 2 SNOWY OWLS, an AMERICAN BITTERN and a SHORT-EARED OWL.

The Olympia Washington REDWING was again observed at 8:30 AM and later in
the day around 3:30 in the 4th Ave, Decatur Street area.
