Greetings,

An adult Red-throated Loon was seen on the Columbia River while on my walk
along the Loop Trail at Wenatchee. The bird was at Wenatchee Confluence
State Park and across the river to Douglas County.

Waterfowl have been frequently seen displaying along the river over the last
month. I have been reading about these courtship displays in these two
volumes edited by Palmer and in the monograph by Erskine:
Palmer, R. S. ed., 1976. Handbook of North American birds. Vol. 2.
Waterfowl. Part 1. Yale University Press, New Haven, Conn. 521 pp.
Palmer, R. S. ed., 1976. Handbook of North American birds. Vol. 3.
Waterfowl. Part 2. Yale University Press, New Haven, Conn. 560 pp.
Erskine, A. J. 1971. Buffleheads. Canadian Wildlife Service Monograph Series
4. 240 pp.
Does anyone know of any other books where the displays are described?
Perhaps there is a single volume that describes them all.

Also today the adult light morph Harlan's Red-tail was back on a light
standard at US 97A and US 2 at Wenatchee. I was a little worried since I
hadn't seen it since the snow of early January.

Good Birding,
