Indeed.
I have been on that trail once many years ago (LT
Murray). Most memorable were the Lazuli Buntings (a
lifer at the time) and the rattlesnake that buzzed me
from less than a foot away! It was at the base of
the only sagebrush along a trail, and I was right next
to it when he buzzed me. I levitated 5 feet up the
slope. The sound went straight from my ears to my
feet, without ANY filtering from my brain. Amazing
how instantaneous my reaction was to that sound! And
I got some good pictures afterwards of it crawling
away! Neat (but frazzling!) encounter!
