Under threatening skies, I took my beginning birding class out to Lake Tye
in Monroe today (6 blocks from our school) In addition to lots of good
ducks, an Eagle flew in just after we arrived and perched and preened for
us. We also got a great look at a shrike. It was a fun hour for the kids
and for me and the enthusiam of the students reminded me how important it is
to bring in the new generations of birders. People who love birds, make the
connection between places (habitats) and bird needs and therefore are more
likely to stand up in defense of wild places.
