Hi Tweets,

The Central Basin Audubon held a one-half day field trip around Moses Lake
yesterday. Our primary emphasis was on winter sparrows, and the usual
culprits were observed. Spotted Towhee, Song, White-crowned, and Dark-eyed
Juncos were seen in reasonable numbers despite the very foggy conditions.
Our sparrow highlight of the day was two American Tree Sparrows observed on
Road K .5 SE.
While sparrows were fairly uncooperative a few other highlights were
located.
The MEW GULL was relocated and well observed at the Moses Lake Spillways,
as was a Bewick's Wren, and a good number of Hooded Mergansers.
A wintering Burrowing Owl was located near the Road 'O' SE freeway
interchange east of Moses Lake and was photographed and well observed by all
participants.
The wintering Greater Yellowlegs was observed again on the Pelican Horn arm
of Moses Lake, but the Baird's Sandpiper located last week was not
relocated.
A single American Bittern was observed at Three Ponds. While not a great
county find it was a site bird for this location. In addition, a half-dozen
Black-crowned Night-Herons were found at this location and well observed.
Gray Partridge were located at a remote WDFW acquisition site near Warden
(Road V .5 SE).
Seventy-four Bohemian Waxwings were observed feeding on juniper berries at
Suncrest RV Park adjacent to I-90 exit 174.

Cheers
