Hello all,
This evening while searching for the Great Gray Owl at Bennington Lake just east of Walla Walla I ran into Dr. Richard Johnson and Roger Chou. While visiting with Dr. Johnson at the pepsi-can site the Great Gray Owl suddenly appeared from the south out from under dense branches on the west side of the canal (where we searched earlier!!). We watched for 30 min. as this owl actively hunted the west side bank. It eventually flew north up the canal after sunset. Returning to the vehicles in the parking lot we observed a Barn Owl and as we were getting in our cars a Northern Saw-whet Owl began to call directly in front of us! After some searching we spotted the owl in the fading light. We will be out there again in the morning around 8 am.
Later, Mike
