Hello,

After a failed attempt to locate the Great Gray Owl along Mission Ck at 1:30
PM, I returned in the evening with Scott Alexander and his two daughters to
search for the bird. We searched for about an hour, enjoying looks at Downy
and Pileated woodpeckers, Red-tailed Hawks and an adult Northern Shrike, but
couldn't find the owl. Just as we were leaving I spotted a blob in a
cottonwood at the edge of a field in the distance. It was the owl. We walked
to the spot and enjoyed close up views of the owl on the N. side of the
Mission Ck greenway, half way between the Casorso Rd bridge and the viewing
platform upstream. We watched the owl catch a vole, eat it, then spit up a
pellet. Scott's daughter quickly ran over and picked up the still steaming
lump of fur and bones. Nice bird.
