Tweeters,
Birded parts of SW Washington today with Jan Watson. At the Julia
Butler Hansen refuge headquarters at 11:30am we observed the Black Phoebe. Also
present were the Waggoners (Brad and Don's parents). It was very active and was
present the entire time we were there. We also saw 5 White-tailed Kites, (two
from the headquarters bldg.), at various locations on the refuge. Also seen
in a nearby tree was a Rough-legged Hawk.
Bay Center featured Common Loon, Red-throated Loon, Western Grebe,
Horned Grebe, Merlin and Red-breasted Mergansers among others.
At Tokeland we observed Whimbrel, Willet, Dowitchers, a majestic Bald
Eagle and a very large raft of Brant. Conspicuosly absent were the Marbled
Godwits but the tide was very low.
