Greetings birders,

This afternoon (Sunday, February 15, 2004) I checked the flock
of about 70 American Wigeon grazing on the lawn along Lake Washington just
south of the "Sayres Pits" area and found two male Eurasians that could be
easily approached in the flock to about 25 feet. There may have been some
females in the crowd, but, the more I read about separating them from female
Americans, the more ready I am to leave this up to others.

I then went out to the end of the launch area and spotted five
Canvasbacks, including a summer plumaged male.

For those of you without enough time to travel far, Lake
Washington always has some interesting stuff - no Falcated Duck spotted,
however!

And the Seattle Audubon Neighborhood/New Member Birdwalk on
Saturday morning at the Montlake Fill that Rachel Lawson helped me lead
attracted 44 folks to learn what we knew about birds and birding. And some
of what we told them was true.

Good birding at Lake Washington, or
wherever, Fran Wood (male)
