A couple of years ago I watched a pair of Bald Eagles work a flock of coots
at Sayres Park. Once they'd separated a single coot out of the flock they took
turns swooping down on it. The coot would dive under water to get away from
the first eagle only to come up for air just as the second eagle was almost on
top of it. The eagles' first attacks had a steep trajectory from about tree-top
height and became lower, shallower and shorter as the attacks progressed.
The coot didn't have a chance.
