Gary, Bruce, and Tweeters,

We have Costa Rican friends and so have been fortunate to visit this
beautiful country three times. Our friends tended to take us off the beaten
track because, in most of the famous and popular locations, there were "too
many Gringos" :-) Consequently, I have never visited Tortuguero or
Monteverde which are supposed to be wonderful areas. We did some backpacking
in each of our trips.

My favorite spots for amazing wildlife were; Corcovado National Park
(lowland coastal primary forest), the climb of Chirripo', La Amistad
National Park (yes, there is a 13,000ft mountain range in Costa Rica!) This
strenuous hike goes up through some amazing cloud forest and ends up in an
area of dwarf bamboo and stunted trees. Rincon de la Vieja National Park
(dry deciduous forest) and a very popular, very small park, Manuel Antonio
(lowland coastal forest). There are many more parks in the country that
should be equally good for wildlife.

There is a good guidebook published by the Mountaineers to the National
Parks of Costa Rica. In some cases, such as Chirripo', the author
underestimates the number of birds and other wildlife that can be seen.

Honestly, wherever you go, you will see amazing things, even in cities and
driving down the highway! There are activities near wildlife areas that
should suit anyone!

Please contact me if I can be of any further assistance.

Tweets,

I may be going to Costa Rica later this year as well. Consequently I would
like responses to Gary's email posted for all to see, if you don't mind.

Thanks,
