Today Pilchuck Wildlife Services released a rehabilitated trumpeter swan at
Shadow Lake at the Bob Heirman Wildlife Park south of Snohomish. She was
shot by a poacher in the Cherry Valley area near Duvall about 8 weeks ago
and has made a full recovery. She also had ingested one lead pellet and
needed to be treated for elevated lead levels. Her flight strength is weak.
Over the next few weeks she will be regaining her strenght. If anyone sees
a bird in distress in this area, such as in the tall grass, or in a field
for more than 24 hours, please contact me.
We are grateful for even one success this year. So far this winter
season more than 360 trumpeter swans have died from lead poisoning up in
Whatcom County and the Sumas Prairie area of B.C.
Thanks.
