Tweeters,
Did a little exploring in an area near my home that I had not birded
before, the Capitol Forest (Grays Harbor County), in hopes that I might find a
Northern Saw-whet Owl. I drove up the hill from Hwy. 12, just west of
Oakville, to the first dirt road (on the right) that you can exit off of the main
road on and immediately saw the Northern Pygmy Owl sitting in a small, bare tree
(bush) just off the road. I watched it for a considerable time and then
left. I returned to the same spot about an hour later after driving through the
forest to the small town of Littlerock and it was still there only in a
different small, bare tree. Other birds in the area were Black-capped Chickadees,
Steller's Jays, Song Sparrows, Northern Juncos, etc.
