Subject: Marked snow geese

Saturday I stopped to look at at least an acre of snow geese between
Stanwood and Conway. I pulled into the driveway of a farmhouse and put the
binocs on those birds that were nearest the road. I could see perhaps 30
very clearly out of what must have been a thousand or two. Among these,
three had leg bands ond one had a big red neck band (couldn't determine if
it also had a leg band). If marked geese were evenly distributed among this
flock, that would mean dozens, perhaps a hundred or so marked snow geese in
this group. Is it possible that so many are marked? Or were the marked
birds for some reason closer to me?
