Hi Tweeters,

I took my mother to Medina Park on Sunday to see the
Great Blue Herons on their nests. It was midafternoon
and not a heron in sight around the nests. Three
herons were perched in the trees in the back of the
park. The park was being heavily used at the time by
people and dogs due to beautiful day. The consolation
prize was getting to observe an Anna's Hummer doing
his incredible display flight.

Today is my drive in day to check out the park. The
herons were back at the nests. The two lower nests
are paired. The upper nest is still working out the
prenuptial agreement between them. It is fun to watch
the nest sitter drive out the approacher and then
allow him/her to slowly move down the branch closer to
the nest.

Other sightings this morning. The Green Heron made an
appearance to the herons pond. So did the Eurasian
Widgeon. There are several sets of widgeon around and
you never know when the Eurasian will be there or not.
Also Hooded Merganser, Ring Neck Duck, a Coot
plucking buds off the willow tree. Golden Crowned
Kinglets were in one of the fir trees. House Sparrow
are nesting in the driftwood sculpture of a face.

I'll try again with the directions. I am street name
challenged... I405, NE 8th exit, go west, go past
Bellvue Square Mall, NE 8th winds around and turns in
NE 12th. At a 5 way stop with a street that is more
like 84th than my last post of 124th go straight. St
Thomas Episcopal church on the right. Medina park on
the left. Herons in the tree in the pond in front of
you in the parking lot. Watch your speed. The Medina
police enforce 25mph strictly!
