11:37am start; outgoing tide; mudflats visible
12:03pm end

Tweeters,
The wind started picking up speed at 11:57am, about the same time that the COOPER'S HAWK landed on the old chain-link fence that runs down to the river to the south of my viewing position. It sat very upright on the crossbar, one leg tucked underneath, and alertly scanned the area. An increased zoom on my scope showed up the very contrasty dark cap, almost gray nape, quite rounded tail, and reddish horizontal streaks on the breast. I indicated the other day that this was a male, and from the size, I still believe that to be the case. When it and the Peregrine Falcon were near each other, they were about the same size, and I believe the PEFA is also a male. Again, I just wish I could have stuck around longer to watch the Coop.

Note: Yesterday I reported at noon that I saw the Peregrine Falcon on the west power tower. At 3:20pm, when I left work, it was still there.

Birds seen during this scan include the following:
Canada Goose (18)
Gadwall (5)
Mallard
Common Goldeneye
Common Merganser (2)
Double-crested Cormorant
Cooper's Hawk
Mew Gull (9)
Glaucous-winged Gull (9)
Rock Pigeon (16)
Belted Kingfisher
American Crow (10)
Bewick's Wren (2)
Song Sparrow
Red-winged Blackbird

May all your birds be identified,
