For those who follow American Birds reports, you may remember Vic
Goodwill, who compiled the reports for southern Vancouver Island for
many years into the 1980s. Vic passed away about a week ago. He had
been fighting leukemia but I believe he died after complications from
another procedure. His wife Peggy, who was the voice of the Victoria
Rare Bird Alert for many years (Vic was too hard of hearing to do it)
had a stroke recently, but was just about to go home to Vic when he
died.

Vic was a prolific and meticulous observer, and irritated more than a
few birders, because their sightings were sometimes not accepted at
face value. His legacy is the high standard of the regional records
during that period.

If anyone would like contact information for Peggy, I will be happy to
look it up off-list.
