Hello all,
Today in beautiful weather we birded with Alan Richards. Started at Hood Park where the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was very vocal and active between the dump station and the amphitheatre. Also found 1 Northern Saw-whet Owl. There was a Snow Goose in the field across from Hood Park with many Canada Geese. At McNary Refuge were many Wood Ducks, Black-crowned Night-Herons, Shovelers, and lots of other waterfowl.
At Big Flat HMU in Franklin Co. were the subadult Harris' Sparrow, 3 White-throated Sparrows, 8 Am. White Pelicans, 1 Hooded Merganser, 1 each Coopers and Sharp-shinned Hawk, and 8 flyover Sandhill Cranes.
The Northern Saw-whet Owl was on its roost at Windust Park. There was a Great Horned Owl east of the restroom in a pine and near the park were 20 Long-eared Owls!! The Say's Phoebe was calling until a Merlin flew in. There were 2 Brown Creepers in the park as well. Below the granary were approx. 80 Common Goldeneyes.
Below Little Goose Dam were 12 Gray-crowned Rosy Finches (including a few Hepburn's race), 8 Great Horned Owls (what happened to the Barn Owls???), 10 Canyon Wrens, a Say's Phoebe. Above the dam at Little Goose Landing at 6 pm were 2 American Tree Sparrows.
Later, MerryLynn & Mike
