At the risk of dragging out this thread (which
arguably doesn't belong on this list), we have two
kinds of non-native rats that are both very common in
our urban areas. The Black Rat (Rattus rattus) and
the Norway Rat (Rattus norvegicus). Black Rats do not
have white on the belly, but Norway Rats do! I
suspect that this is indeed what it was as
Bushy-tailed Woodrat, while possible, would be almost
infinately less likely.
