Subject: APB for horned larks

From: "Moore, Randy" <Randy.Moore at oregonstate.edu>

Hello there Tweeters,

The OSU Dept. of Fisheries and Wildlife is starting a small project to =
examine local populations of "streaked" horned larks (Eremophila =
alpestris strigata) in winter. There is some indication that local =
populations of this subspecies are declining, and nobody really has a =
very good idea of the extent of their wintering range.

We would like to tap into the huge storehouse of knowledge that exists =
within the local birding community with the following requests: =20

1) If any of you long-time Western Washington, Willamette Valley, and =
coastal birders know of areas west of the Cascades that consistently =
host flocks of horned larks of ANY subspecies, we'd be pleased as punch =
to be contacted with any info you may have.

2) We'd also be grateful for contact from anyone who is birding in =
these areas (starting now) and happens upon flocks of horned larks of =
ANY subspecies that we can check out.

3) Any information about what type of habitat you think is especially =
attractive to horned larks in these areas is also greatly valuable.

Please feel free to respond privately or publicly. My e-mail address is =
listed below.

Thanks in advance,
Randy
