Just about one hour ago, I was at the western portion of the Brady Loop road
watching a very large eagle swoop down on a large flock of waterfowl in the
wetland area there. The light was very good and when I put by binocs up on
the eagle, the first field mark that stuck me was the golden-brown color of
the back of the neck. The rest of the bird was overall brown in color with
some whitish areas mixed in. I've seen a few immature Bald Eagles in this
area before, but this bird strikes me as very different than one of them
mainly because of the golden-brown neck. I'm hesistant to make the call on
this one because this would be my first Golden Eagle. Perhaps if any other
birders are headed past the area they can take a look. Beware the roads
though, they are very slick!
