Hello Tweeter Readers,
Sunday morning I was in Seattle visiting my brother and decided to go on to
Nisqually NWR to see if I could get my first look at the Ross' Geese. I was
filled with the eternal optimism that all birders have, nay should have. All
the reports on Tweeters seemed like they should be easy to find. I searched
all over, including the fields south of the refuge, but no Ross' (or
cacklers). I found one flock of Canadas with a white goose, but it
definately wasn't a Ross'. Probably an albino Canada or escaped domestic. Oh
well, it couldn't have been a more beautiful NW winter day (even if it was
on the cold side). Had great looks (didn't even need my binos) at Bewick's
Wren, Kingfisher, female Buffleheads. etc. One note, anyone driving down
there should realize there is a lot of ice on I-5 between west side of
Tacoma and the refuge, and it should be there a couple more days if the
weather stays this cold. Happy birding (and safe driving)
