While I was watching the birds in the snow in my backyard, I saw that one of
the several male Varied Thrushes has no dark breast-band. Not even a faint
line. Must be a "varied" thrush. I observed one Dark-eyed Junco fly in toward
the patio, drop down and totally sink up over its head in the soft snow. It
quickly recovered and flew to the snowless area under the picnic table. The 2
Downy and 3 Northern Flickers can't get enough suet. A female Varied Thrush
has been very pleased with the suet, too. A Red-breasted Sapsucker has also
been by.
