Hello, tweets,

The final results for the 2003 Sequim-Dungeness CBC are now complete.
On Dec. 15th, 113 observers and 16 feeder watchers tallied 69079
individuals of 142 species, including several record highs for our
count.

Among passerines, corvids, chickadees, kinglets, sparrows, and
Yellow-rumped Warblers stand out with very high numbers this year.
Some records for our count: 333 Steller's Jays, 1662 crows, 322 ravens
(no sign of West Nile virus here!), 1647 GC Kinglets, 538 CB
Chickadees, 37 YR Warblers (only one confirmed Myrtle), 1012 Song
Sparrows, and 26 Lincoln's Sparrows. Our wonderful boat party located
record numbers of Pacific Loons (349) and Yellow-billed Loons (4!),
plus 1846 Ancient Murrelets (not quite a record) playing in the tide
rips between Protection Island and Dungeness Spit. Among waterfowl, we
had record high counts for Gadwall (143) and Ring-necked Ducks (153).
Cal. Quail and Mourning Doves continue to increase rapidly in our area.
Species showing lower than average numbers included Red-throated
Loons, Horned and Western Grebes, Harlequin Ducks, White-winged
Scoters, and Band-tailed Pigeons. Unusual species for our count
included Ruddy Duck, Sora, Red Knot, Red Phalaropes (13), a Selasphorus
hummer, Townsend's Solitaires (2), and Swamp Sparrow.

Thanks very much to all who helped with our count, particularly those
who traveled long distances. We greatly appreciate your help!!
