Yesterday afternoon?s drive through the River S unit at Ridgefield NWR
(southern Washington, off I-5) produced some lovely treats against the snowy
backdrop and still-frozen waterways. Highlights:

BELTED KINGFISHER
TUNDRA SWAN (dozens)
BALD EAGLE - several immature + a few adult
NORTHERN HARRIER - one tearing apart some hapless bird on the ice
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK
SHORT-EARED OWL (2) - one on a fence post right next to the road
BARN OWL (1) - on a fence post next to the gate at the top, near the
entrance (I haven?t seen a Barn Owl in years!)

It was very cool to see the swans and eagles practically next to each other
on the ice.
