Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday January 15. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

The MCKAY?S BUNTING photographed at Depoe Bay January 3 could not be
relocated.

The big news of the week is the apparent northward movement of BARN SWALLOWS
along the coast. A few white-bellied swallows are with them. Swallows are
still being reported from the Willamette Valley. On January 14 two
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS were in the Rogue Valley near Merlin.

On January 11 a TURKEY VULTURE was at Brookings, five LAPLAND LONGSPURS and
a PALM WARBLER were at Flores Lake, a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at Siletz Bay,
and two WESTERN SANDPIPERS were among a flock of 243 LEAST SANDPIPERS near
Astoria. On January 9 two ROSS?S GEESE and a SNOW GOOSE were at brownsmead.

An adult WESTERN GULL and an EURASIAN TEAL are now at the Fernhill Wetlands..
On January 13 a Prairie Falcon was north of Forest Grove near Roy. The
Baskett Slough NWR GYRFALCON continues to be seen. A ROSS?S GOOSE was at
Ankeny NWR January 11. The large DUNLIN flock is still on the refuge. On
January 10 a LAPLAND LONGSPUR was near Tangent.

On January 10 a PRAIRIE FALCON and a CINNAMON TEAL were at Finley NWR. A
PRAIRIE FALCON was near the Eugene Airport January 9. On January 10 a LESSER
YELLOWLEGS was with two GREATER YELLOWLEGS near Fern Ridge Reservoir. The
Fisher Unit sparrow patch at Fern Ridge contains large numbers of SAVANNAH
SPARROWS, a SWAMP SPARROW, a VESPER SPARROW, a TREE SPARROW and a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW. On January 10 a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen there.
On January 14 an EURASIAN TEAL was near Merlin.

On January 11 a male HARLEQUIN DUCK was at the mouth of the Deschutes River..
On January 13 a LONG-TAILED DUCK and two CACKLING GEESE were at Pelton Dam
near Madras. On January 10 ten LAPLAND LONGSPURS were near Madras and 13
were near Powell Butte. They were among flocks of HORNED LARKS.
