While walking among the crows at the Fill I noticed a rather strong
musty odor that seemed to be coming from the birds. It was particularly
strong when a group of 50 or so birds flew right above my head. Does
anybody know whether crows have a particularly well developed sense of
smell and whether this might be used, as appears to be the case in
petrels, as a criterion for mate choice ?

Other things of interest at the Fill or more accurately out in Union
Bay:

4 male redhead
2 male, 1 female canvasbacks
1 female common goldeneye
2 male, 1 female common mergansers
3 male, 1 female hooded mergansers
