I ventured out a little bit along Tracyton Beach Road today, past Lebo
(Lions?) Field northward to just past Alta St/Dr (?). Not a long distance,
but very birdy. The usual waterfowl suspects, plus a singing Song Sparrow,
a singing House Finch, a buzzing wren, Bushtits, and a magnificent adult
Bald Eagle perched in a tree surveying the Port Washington Narrows and its
denizens:

(taxillogical order)

American Wigeon
Common Goldeneye (many)
Barrow's Goldeneye (very few)
Surf Scoter
White-winged Scoter
Horned Grebe (no Westerns at all!)
Bufflehead
Pigeon Guillemot
Pelagic Cormorant
Double-crested Cormorant

Didn't see any Long-tailed Ducks :(

Most fun was watching the birds fly and land. I'm trying to upgrade my
water-birds-in-flight ID skills, so it's nice to have a place nearby with
multiple species. The most breathtaking scene was a couple of Surf Scoters
holding their wings totally upright as they landed on the water. Dunno what
it was that struck me about it, but gosh, it was really really beautiful.

Good birding,
Mary
