Hi tweets,

A comment on two points made by others.

First Rob Saecker is correct in saying that Swainson's
Hawks are very unpopular with falconers, and exactly
for the reason he described. While I can't rule out
the possibility that some may indeed have Swainson's
Hawks for this purpose it would be very very unlikely
for there to be more than one or two out there.

Secondly, in comment to records here in the puget
trough. It seems to me that they are rare but not an
unexpected migrant with an average year about one
(this is a guess and I don't have NAB handy to check
on it) being seen somewhere here on the westside, if
not in the puget trough. Someone like Steve M. or
Russell Rogers who have handled field notes for a
while is better qualified to comment on this though.
While most of our records on this side are of
migrants, there was a dark morph that stayed most of
the summer (atleast into August) near Everett a couple
of years ago. It could be seen fairly regularly from
I-5 near the Everett STP.
