Tweets,

There's been a lot of talk of possible hybridization between Great Black-backed and various and sundry other species, however, the AOU 7th checklist makes no mention of it, nor does Grant, while stressing the frequency of hybridization of members of the Herring, Glaucous-winged, Western, Glaucous, Slaty-backed, Kumlein's, Thayer's complex. I've never heard of a California, Ring-billed, or Mew hybridizing. So where's the evidence that the Great Black-backed engages in that sort of miscegenation?

Gene Hunn.
