On 19 Jan, 3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS were at the Port of Lewiston grain terminal
on the Clearwater River in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID. Terry and Christine
Gray report 1 male and 2 females. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

In Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Co ID on 20 Jan, a THAYER'S GULL was at
Independence Point city beach on near the CdA Resort, according to Shirley
Sturts who saw it with members of CdA Audubon. On the 25th the THAYER'S was
absent, but a second winter MEW GULL was there according to Shirley. From US
95, follow Northwest Blvd east to the parking area just west of the CdA
Resort. ID Delorme 60, B-1.5.

Paul Sullivan reports a single BUSHTIT at the Christian Church in
Enterprise, Wallowa Co OR on 18 Jan. Bushtits were reported here on the CBC
held on 14 Dec. OR DeLorme 87, C-7.

On 22 Jan, a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was at Denton Slough on Lake Pend
Oreille, Bonner Co ID according to Stephen Lindsay. Denton Slough is at ID
200 milepost 49.2. See A Birders' Guide to Idaho p 34 and ID DeLorme 62,
C-3. Another RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was at Wolf Lodge Bay on Lake Couer
d'Alene, Kootenai Co ID according to Marty O'Malley (sp?). Wolf Lodge Bay is
at I-90 exit 22 east of Coeur d'Alene. Check your Birder's Guide to Idaho p
51. ID DeLorme 60, B-2.

Bob Flores reports 5 TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were in Co WA near Othello on 24
Jan. The birds were at the small cattle feedlot on the north side of
McManamon Road to the west of Para Ponds. From Othello go north on Broadway
(west end of town extending north from WA 24) past the processing and
storage facilities, SVZ and cubing plant. When the road crosses the RR
tracks it becomes McManamon Road. Continue across the canal and down the
hill past the 2 potato sheds. The Para Ponds are just beyond on both sides
of the road. WA DeLorme 53, B-7.

A flock of 6 SNOW BUNTINGS was in a small flock of Horned Larks along US 195
in Whitman Co, WA on 25 Jan according to Tom and Diane Weber. The birds were
near Chambers, which is about 5 miles south of Pullman. Close by, a PRAIRIE
FALCON was at the airport at Staley, which is about 2 miles northeast of
Chambers along Staley Road. WA DeLorme 57, C-7.

Doug Schonewald reports SNOW BUNTINGS on 24 Jan in Douglas Co WA. The birds
were in large flocks of Horned Larks along Heritage Road near Atkins Lake
and along Road L NE near the intersection of WA 172. Atkins Lake is about 8
miles west of Coulee City, just north and west of US 2 where US 2 curves
south. WA DeLorme 84, CD-5.

The BLUE JAY south of Othello, Adams Co WA was still being seen through 19
Jan according to Randy Hill. To get there take WA 24 south of Othello 3+
miles, turn left on Atkinson Road and go about a mile to Sundance. Take
either end south to where it loops back and watch/listen along the inside of
the loop. WA DeLorme 53, BC-7.

The BLUE JAY is persisting at the feeder of Dave Holick northeast of Moscow,
Latah Co ID. This bird has been around for nearly 2 months. If you want to
try for it, give Dave a call at 208.882.5556.
