Hello Tweets

This past weekend my wife and I visited Lake Quinault. We took the 31 mile
loop around the Lake Quinault and up the Quinault River and back. Just after
crossing the bridge, we came to a pasture and decided to exercise our dog Scully.
We were standing in the pasture for about 5 minutes when I noticed movement
to my left. I turned and was surprised to see a Coyote running at us at full
speed. I yelled at my wife to get Scully in the car and then I yelled at the
Coyote. The noise had little effect on the Coyote who was totally focused on
Scully for lunch! The Coyote stopped about 30 feet from me just as Scully went
running by for our car. Scully was not aware of the Coyote as it was trying to
figure out why we yelling at her and why my wife was chasing her. I had left the
car door open and Scully made a beeline for it with my wife right behind her.
Scully made a successful leap for the front seat from about 5 feet and then
jumped into the back seat, still unaware what was going on. I started walking
towards the car with the Coyote behind me at about 20 feet, still looking for
Scully. I got into the car and the Coyote stopped, still about 20 feet away. By
this time Scully had finally noticed what all the fuss was over and she
started whining as she usually does when she sees another dog to play with. We
stayed there another 5 minutes, during this time, the Coyote just paced back and
forth and stayed at the 20 foot distance. I have seen many Coyotes, but I have
never seen one as bold as this male. Our dog has been spayed, so the only
reason that I have is that it was very hungry. The time of dat was 3:30 PM. We
were very fortunate that Scully had not noticed the Coyote or she would have run
up to it and definitely would have been lunch. For a bird report on this trip
there were 3 Swans on the river and 8 Bald Eagles along the river. Lots of
spawned out fish floating down the river.
