Yesterday as I was watching my bird feeders, I thought I saw a hummingbird fly by. It was so quick that I pretty much discounted it. The back lighting makes it very difficult at times to see what is around the feeders.

I was reading the rare bird watch from Portland, and it did list two hummingbirds.

This is my first year as an avid birdwatcher, although it must be done generally from my bedroom windows. Isn't this too early to expect hummingbirds? I am in the Centralia area, half way between Seattle and Portland.

When should I start to put out hummingbird feeders?

Also, I was told that hummingbirds generally only stay in the area about three weeks. They come every spring to my quince bush, and I am interested in putting out a feeder to attract them into the back part of the yard where I can more readily see them.

Also, what kind of hummingbird feeder is the best for the birds at the least expense to me?

Any advice would be very appreciated.
