For those of us who use Lake Sammamish State park, WA, I am forwarding a
letter I received today.
Included is a survey, please fill it in appropriately so that at least
birders can have their say on the future of the park

Make every Garden a wildlife Habitat!

When the animals come to us,
Asking for our help,
Will we know what they are saying?

When the plants speak to us
In their delicate, beautiful language,
Will we be able to answer them?

When the planet herself
Sings to us in our dreams,
Will we be able to wake ourselves, and act?

Dear Lake Sammamish State Park Stakeholder,

The Lake Sammamish State Park Advisory Committee has launched a survey to
help understand reasons behind a decade-long decline in use at the park.
The committee recently drafted a series of questions to focus area residents
on why they have visited the park less in the past several years and what,
if anything, should be done to reverse this trend.
"There's a lot of conjecture about why attendance - other than team sports
and boat launching - has declined," said Nancy Davidson the Committee's
chair. "We're really interested in hearing directly from the public so we
can respond and make appropriate recommendations."
Established earlier this year to help weigh options for park re-development,
the 16-member advisory committee consists of local and regional elected
officials, individuals representing tribal, environmental, corporate,
conservation, and youth interests, as well as two people representing the
general public.
The advisory committee will use survey results to help identify projects
they can recommend that State Parks consider during preparation of an
environmental impact statement (EIS) expected to begin in 2005. The agency
will hold a design competition later this summer to flesh out development
concepts and gauge public support for a number of regional facilities before
deciding which ones to evaluate further through the intensive EIS process.
The advisory committee encourages the public to take part in the survey
