Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I checked a few locations in eastern Grays Harbor Co. primarily for dragonflies, but we encountered a few bird species,as well. We checked areas between the Chehalis River near Montesano to the Schouweiler Rd. wetland near Elma with an additional check made along Brady Loop Rd. We encountered 9 species of dragonfly during our searching, although conditions were not at their prime due to fairly cloudy conditions with wind at times. Our main bird highlights today were up to 5 adult Least Sandpipers observed along Brady Loop Rd. among 3 other shorebird species and a pair of Greater Scaups observed at the Schouweiler Rd. wetland. Other highlights noted during the day included the following:

In addition a belated report of a few highlights we encountered during the week in Mason Co. near Wood Lake, which included 2 Common Nighthawks and 2 Black Swifts on the 27th of June and a single flyover calling female Purple Martin at the same location on the 28th of June, which seems a noteworthy observation for the location. Among several dragonflies identified in this area of Mason Co. were a pair of Emerald Spreadwings on the 28th of June, which was a first county record and specimen for Mason Co. Other noteworthy dragonfly species encountered at this location included Common Spreadwing, Western Forktail,American Emerald, and Chalk-fronted Corporal, which the latter species was locally common and is known from at least 13 WA counties, with the newest addition to Grays Harbor Co.

Good birding,
