Happy Independence Day, Tweeters.

Yesterday on the minus 4 tide I walked up to the Edmonds pilings between the
ferry dock and the fishing pier. The triple pilings were dry. The single,
further out, was not. One male was perched on the single. He swooped down
to land momentarily on the rebar. As he flew away a female shot out of the
gourd and headed toward the Marsh. On the high of 12.7 last night a budding
birder friend and I launched my kayaks from Olympic Beach so we could look
into the gourd entrances. The water was pretty bouncy although there was no
wind. Must have been some wild weather out on the Strait yesterday evening.
At any rate, we kept circling the gourds and were able to observe females in
two of them. This would have been between 7 and 8 p.m. No sign of chicks
yet.
