Hello Tweeters,

My dad and I were driving back from Portland this morning and about two miles
before the Coweeman River (which is a little ways before exit number 39 on
I-5, if you are heading north) a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK flew over the southbound
lanes, in front of our car in the northbound lane and landed in a tree to the
right of the northbound lanes. This was about 10:00 am this morning.
Unfortunately, we couldn't stop to take a look at it, as there was nowhere to pull over.
It was most definitely a Red-Shoulder though. The first thing I noticed was
the weird way it was flying (compared to a red-tail which is what my first
thought was) and then, as it landed in the tree I could see it's black and white
tail and orange coloring. It was much chunkier than a red-tail and my dad even
commented on the very different flight style.
I know that Red-Shoulders are supposed to be moving north but I haven't heard
much about it lately. Does anyone know if there are any other recent
Red-Shoulder sightings in Washington/Oregon?
It was definitely neat to see!
