Barry Levine and I spent Monday with some casual birding in Kittitas County,
just off Bullfrog Road south of Roslyn (N 47 11.395, W121 01.244). The bird
of the day was a WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER, I assume a juvenile male due to the
lack of red on the throat. We also had great looks at a couple of female
BLUE GROUSE, it has been awhile since I have seen one, and I was struck by
how large a bird it is. We had a quick look at a silent Empid that remained
unidentified, but I suspect that it was a Pacific-Slope Flycatcher since it
was very bright, with strong olive color on the back and lots of yellow on
the underparts. We didn't get a good look at the head before it flew. Is
there anyone out there who would be willing to call an Empid based on these
characteristics? For me, it is best left to genus only.

Good birding,
