Hi Tweets

Four of us birded Marymoor this morning, in the absence of Michael Hobbs
who is at the Model Railroaders Annual Convention downtown this week. I
was joined by Ollie Oliver, Hugh Jennings and Jim McCoy under mostly
cloudy skies that threatened but never produced any rain. It was a
cooler than normal morning for July, 51F when we started. We had a very
nice morning with several nice sightings. There were numbers of juvenile
birds around and the young orioles were still in the nest at West Marymoor.

Particularly nice sightings were a Spotted Sandpiper at the weir (I
believe the first for the year), perhaps three Green Herons, at least
three groups of Wood Duck females with ducklings (6, 4 and 4), as many
as 30 Black Swifts over the river and lake, tons of American Goldfinch,
Osprey, Red-tailed Hawk (adult and juvenile) and Bald Eagle (adult and
juvenile). We had both Anna's and Rufous Hummingbirds at the Pea Patch.
The Anna's was a young male that went into displays just after we saw it
at one of the feeders. Near the vicinity of the displays was the
juvenile male Rufous. The Rufous worked the area over, and at one point
the Anna's came back and gave a couple of more displays.

A very pleasant morning with 56 species for the day.
