Subject: unknown peep at JBP

about 90 minutes ago, i was quite surprised to spook a peep (sandpiper-ish)
from the underbrush near the end of the western boardwalk at juanita bay
park... he and i exchanged about 1 full second of frozen surprise before he
took off in a distinctive flight pattern (strong and quick wingbeats for
about 1 second, followed by a very short rest, repeated... he lost little
altitude during the rests)...

he was maybe 6-7" tall, mostly buff-coloured with a hint of speckling on his
back... i don't recall his beak being especially long, but as i and he were
facing each other, it would be hard to tell... my mind wants to say greyish
legs, but the rest of me is really not sure... for what it's worth (and i'm
hardly an expert), i didn't get the feeling he was (1) one of many in the
area or (2) a juvenile...

any ideas / thoughts? yes, i had my camera. no, i didn't get the shot...
yes, i was frozen... no, it wouldn't have made a difference (he was gone
from sight within 5 seconds)... and stokes and i aren't seeing eye-to-eye
on the possibilities...

sigh :)
