Cathy,

Fledged Pileateds should be out of the nest now, and tagging along behind
a parent. Last weekend I observed an adult female with two young males
in tow at Fay Bainbridge State Park. They were feeding on termites and
ants in the rotting driftwood, a rather unusual place to see them.

Both sexes share in the incubation duty, and the bird not on the nest
will often call, possibly to let the bird on the nest know its location.
After the youngsters fledge, it is not unusual for the offspring to split
up, each to a different parent, as they forage around the neighborhood.
