Hi, Tweeters,

While returning from Mt. Adams on sunday along highway 23 near Randle, my husband and I encountered a juvenile owl, first sitting in the middle of the highway! The bird flew to a tree nearby, and we observed it. I am not certain if it was a Barred Owl or Spotted Owl, although I realize the former is more likely. Definitely a fledgling, about 15 inches long, with indistinct "barring" and pale bill. If I was to go by Sibley, I would have thought it a Spotted. Is this possible? The forest is second growth but large maples, Doug fir, etc.
